Dear Reader,
We’re back! And it’s been quite the journey getting to this day.
Cassie update:
After my cancer diagnosis (Stage 1E Hodgkin's Lymphoma), I immediately started chemotherapy. The chemo was rough, but a month into my treatment I found out that I had a fistula (a hole!) between my esophagus and trachea that couldn’t be repaired until I finished chemo. So along with treatment, I needed a feeding tube and wasn’t able to eat or drink anything for four months. It was grueling to say the least. I finished chemo on 12/13 and on 1/11 I got my PET scan to find out that I was in remission. FINALLY. No joke that my results came in at 11:11 on 1/11 (while I was wearing my Lake & Skye 11:11 perfume!)
A few weeks later, I had my surgery to repair my throat, and I had my first sip of water on 2/13 after not having anything by mouth since October. And now I am fully back eating and drinking and thankfully my feeding tube was removed last month.
I feel like I am slowly but steadily getting stronger. My next scan will be in July to be sure that I am still in remission. Oh, and just trying to tackle the small task of getting back to writing. For now, I’m trying to reclaim my creativity by working through The Artist’s Way.
Cassie’s scent dreams:
The scent of the summer of 1963 at Kellerman’s resort in the Catskills. Like learning to dance with the hot older dancer instructor, carrying a watermelon, having the time of my life, and not being put in the corner.
If Sally Rooney books were a perfume
Taylor update:
I’m in a constant loop of, ‘my manuscript is almost done!’ so perhaps bringing back our beloved newsletter will help spark some inspiration my way! In other news I’ve finished my first semester in grad school, hoping one day to secure an MBA and make my pie shop dreams a reality. I’ve helped the Cahaba River Society revive its young professional group and this summer we’ll be celebrating Cahaba Lily season and begin working on a signature event we can host to support the Cahaba River Society’s mission.
This summer I’m hoping I’ll be able to stock my cookbook with perfected recipes and expand my board game collection (do you have a favorite one?)
Taylor’s scent dreams:
The signature scent of the Genovian royal family (pears)
A bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils
Pie crust, buttery and flakey, please!
Now that we’re back, we’ll be hitting the ground running with our next installment coming very soon. Next up is Just for Summer by Abby Jimenez and we can’t wait to get our noses into this book (and into your inboxes).
Scent-cerely,
Cassie & Taylor
